Correction: Whoops! I said last night that the Luftwaffe also used, and the Russians carried on producing Plath gyro sextants.
I think gyro sextants worked after a fashion, because as I understand it, both the Luftwaffe and the Kriegsmarine used them, and post WW2, Russian copies were made.
I must have OD’d on aircraft sextants. The Plath sextants the Luftwaffe also used and the Russians carried on producing were the standard bubble variety. Sorry. DaveP
