Sperry also produced a gyro sextant in the USA https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/sextant-sperry-gyro . They would of course have had no shortage of gyro expertise. It doesn’t appear to have been produced in quantity. It’s difficult to confirm from the patent wording alone whether the gyro had a single pivot like the Plath or was gimballed although I suspect the latter. Unfortunately, I was unable to download the patent illustrations to check that way. DaveP
