Hello.
Since this type of sextant was actually used in the field (at sea) - it worked somehow. However I can't understand how could it settle to a local vertical on a rocking boat? How could a navigator check it has settled? This requires a steady platform methinks... Was an U-boat of the era stable enough (even if submerged)?
Also it must have been VERY inconvenient to use.
