Yes, this sounds reasonable.
But if it were an obvious failure - it would not get to Kriegsmarine in the first place. May be as a test/experimental sample then?
OK, still I find this "transparent" gyro a very clever idea. If one would ask me to develop a gyro-stabilized level - I'd never come up with an idea like this: a see-through optical path in a ROTATING ACROSS the line of sight blob of metal! :)
As an engineer I like studying other people's achievements.
