As soon as I clicked send on my previous rambling post I realised I should have wriiten something more concise. There is evidence that the UK and US cooperated in the publication of navigational publications:
1618 published in the UK. Published in the US as HO218 as a war emergency measure.
HO214 published in the US. Published with permission in the UK as HD486.
But.........Bowditch and HO200 copied Percy Davis's Haversine tables without permission. Davis was clearly upset.
