Brian I think that I have realised what is confusing you. It is something that I was confused about and the difficulty was that I did not realise that I was confused!
You need to understand the difference between N30E and S30E. With the former you start at north and travel clockwise towards the east so the azimuth is 30°. With the latter start at south and move anti--clockwise towards the east so the azimuth is 150.° S30E is not 210°. Note also that N30E = S150E.
I hope that is correct - I became very confused as I wrote it.
