Lee,
I am an inland navigator.
I occasionally use the fence between the neighbor and myself as a horizon for a noon check shot and find it quite accurate. Any error over time will become a known and can be corrected for. The fence is near as dammit eye height.
I use a Davis and a bubble horizon where and when applicable.
