Lee. A mirror artificial horizon has a lot of practical advantages compared to messing around with liquids, but take care not to look into it directly (i.e. not through the sextant & its shades) when placing yourself in approximately the correct position for everything to line up. It’s not much different from attempting to look directly into the Sun. DaveP
