At this time of year anywhere in the US you can take I noon sun sight with any artificial horizon. I use a levelled mirror but you may use liquid as well. As long as the aparent altitude is less than half of the sextant arc, you may take a sight at noon. My Astra has an arc of 130 degrees so I can shoot as high as 64 degrees at noon. Only in the summer months is the noon sight out of reach of the artificial horizon at noon.
Kind regards, Randy
