Hi David,
thank you for your perspective, all noted and appreciated!
This sextant was property of the late Cdr D R S Harvey, one of the first officers of the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard when it was formed in 1963. I recently cleaned it up, and am looking at replacing the mirrors which though blemished are still usable. I checked it for perpendicularity, side error and index error, and it is still in good adjustment after sitting in its box for perhaps 10 years or more.
I have started using it for practice sights taken on the shoreline, with good results - certainly better than with my Davis Mk 20!
I took a closer look, the attached picture of the rear side of the frame may reflect a 1955 manufacture date.....
I still hope to find and read a pdf copy of that Heath & Co. publication, thanks again for your input!
Yours aye,
Al Stewart
