As I understand it, the standard modern treatise on tides is Paul Schureman’s Manual of Harmonic Analysis and Prediction of Tides, U.S. Government Printing Office, 1958, reprinted June 2001.
A tide program using this reference was written in the 1990s by the late Ed Wallner. Unfortunately it does not run under modern versions of Windows.
Donald W. Olson of Texas State University has also used Schureman as a reference in his analysis of the tides during the U.S. Marines’ landing on the atoll of Tarawa (November 1943), and also of the tide level during the Boston Tea Party in 1773, and during Julius Caesar’s invasion of Britain in 55 B.C. – among other historical events.
