    To me, the only advantage of the lunar altititude method is the slightly easier maths, but  actually, I find with the Thompson abbreviated reduction  method for classic lunars,with my  slide rule is very easy and accurate. The Alt measurment is inaccurate if horizon is bouncing as usual., with practice the LD measurement is very accurate and LDs give better/more accurate time than lunar Alts. 

    No contest for me.
