There were many different ways of constructing the HOWGOZIT chart depending on branch of service or airline. These are also called, officially, :"range control charts" and "fuel consumption charts,." etc. I am attaching four excerpts from Air Force manuals dated from 1944 through 2001 showing the construction and a page from "American Air Navigator," Mattingly, 1944. I have several other manuals such as Navy manual H.O. 216 showing showing the same thing.

Subject: [NavList] Howgozit chart
I was looking at a web page with navigation requirements from 1982, for pilots. A reference was made to a "howgozit chart." My impression is that this relates to fuel consumption... but I cannot visualize what this might look like.
Can anyone describe this to me? It is so whimsically named, I am quite curious.
Thanks.
