Hughes & Son's Sextant - General Info

Hello All,

First post here so please excuse if I use the wrong terminology or something silly :)

I have been granted possesion of a sextant, inscribed as "H.Hughes & Sons Ltd, 59 Fenchurch St. London"

Another marking just says "8117". Whether this is a model number or serial number possibly?

Any information would be most gratefully received.
