Hm, thinking about it a bit more, a puddle on top of the floating mirror might alter its balance if the puddle is not perfectly centered. That might explain the difference between the two images: the puddle edges might migrate a little as the lazy susan is turned. Even if the puddle were rock steady, though, there's the uncertainty of where its center of gravity is relative to the mirror's.
