I also purchased a refurbished A-12 from balloonRon a couple years ago. For what its worth mine works well and is in good shape. I purchased what he calls a "+10 unit". These are damaged units he sells at a discount the only catch is they cannot measure below 10 degrees. As sights below 10 aren't super useful due to refraction and the trees in my backyard block most low altitute sights that wasn't somthing that bothered me. The sextant works great and its good for practicing sights with stars. For everything else i usally use my artificial horizon and marine sextant. I talked with Ron on the phone for some time and as I recall he has some problem with Navlist but otherwise is a nice guy and seems knowledgable on the function of the A-12.
