Hi Chris
Yes, they still set off detectors. I believe Gary tried to take a radioactive sextant as a carry-on item and had to endure secondary search.

Hi All,
As a collector/rrestorer/user of bubble sextants I have found most Bendix units used a luminescent paint containing radium 226 and they are still very hot. The paint is no longer functioning but thr radium is. ( I believe the half life is around 1600 years.)
I have eight Bendix bubble sextants and one rebuilt Civil Defense era "geiger counter"
