Re: Index error test with Davis whole horizon mirror

Hi Greg Rudzinski. A couple of weeks ago, you answered my question about testing index error with a Davis sextant that has a whole horizon mirror
and you suggested adding filters so that I could use the Sun-to-Sun method. I really appreciate your reply. Thanks.

I started thinking about acquiring some new plastic shades and affixing them to the sextant properly. And then I looked at a cheap pair of "eclipse glasses" on my desk. I'm adding a picture from the B&H video internet store. If you want your own from them, wait until Monday since they're closed for Sukkot this week.

I started thinking about tearing those up and getting out the tape and scissors. But...

For you and other navListers: Can I just wear my eclipse glasses, just as they are, and use the sextant, also just as it is, with no shades turned in? Would this be dangerous?

    ...Erik
