    I mentioned that the stone in Little Compton, RI struck me as "probably an expensive grave marker". But not perfect. I've looked at this photo many times in the past six years, yet I only just noticed that it says the deceased died in "febuary". That's a common pronunciation today, usually tagged as "erroneous" in formal speech, but it may well have been counted as an unremarkable alternative spelling in 1718 (the marker also has "dyed" for "died" but that's not so bad).
