I missed this original thread Frank.
In my opinion the Arabic star names have a simplicity and musicality which makes them easy to remember. I've heard 'the mouth of the whale' - Fomalhaut, فم الحوت - pronounced as 'FOR-mul-hoat' (as in 'coat') but would assume it to be 'foom al HOOT' ('oo' as in 'room')
I guess the problem is that Classical Arabic if I'm not mistaken does not indicate vowel inflections so the pronunciation is not fixed.
