Being a "land locked navigator", out of practice at that, people have navigated the old fashioned way for what, a couple of hundred years or so, with what might certainly be described as acceptable results. GPS is the new kid on the block so to speak, which is not to say that it doesn't work, it certainly does. Of course, so did/does old fashioned celestial navigation. Were I a seafaring type, which I'm not, I would not feel especially comfortable placing total reliance on electronic gadgets that I have little understanding of. That having been said, remember Murphy's Law. Any time things can go to hell given the failure of some fancy device, that device will fail.
