I respectfully disagree with your thinking about the origin of the word “fix.” It has nothing to do with repairing or fixing the DR position.
One can obtain a fix through means other than celestial navigation. For example, taking the bearings from a vessel to two charted landmarks (for example, a lighthouse and a water tower) will yield a “fix” in coastal piloting and navigation.

Hello!
It just occured to me: the "fix" word in CN context means "to repair a DR position". With time one's DR gets less and less veracious and needs fixing. At least this is what I feel|think when I hear this jargonism from seamen.
