I was at the EAA conventi in Oshkosh two weeks ago. I visited the cockpit of a brand new C-130 with eight bladed propellers and had a discussion with the navigator. Celnav is alive and well in our airforce in 2019.
Recently it was announced that the RNZAF was to purcase new C 130j aircraft to replace the current 50 year old models. It was stated that one advantage of the replacement aircraft was that they woud not break down so often (-; More relevant to this thread is that the new planes would need a crew of only three - two pilots and a loadmaster. That indicates to me that the RNZAF will not be employing navigators. Does the US Air Force still employ navigators on its C130s?
