Of course.
Back in the day, Philip Jose Farmer wrote a series about Riverworld. There were a number of wierd metric measurements, which were such as an estimated measurement of 3 miles converted to meters, like 4828.03 (iirc).
Farmer had written the miles, some editor had decided to convert the measurements rather than the sense.

I was going to mention that it is much more complicated than simply obtaining sextants calibrated in miliradians. The Almanacs would all need to be changed showing declination and GHA in the same units as well as all charts would need to be converted to show latitude and longitude too.
