LAN curve parabola?

I'm trying to use excel to fit a curve using linear regression to a series of sun observations in determining LAN. The shape of the curve I get doing this on graph paper appears to be a parabola. But might it be some other function? One end of an ellipse? Has anyone used excel to do this?
