First Post for me:  Today I met my neighbor Frank Reed for the first time in Beavertail state park at the southern tip of Rhode Island.  We live within a reasonable walking distance from each others homes on Conanicut. 

I havn't used used a sextant since the 80's and have forgotten almost everything about celestial since "back in the day" as a ships officer.  My interest has recently been rekindled by a friend who was downsizing and had to get rid of excess stuff.  Lucky for me in her stuff was an unused sextant and 2 weeks ago big brown delivered the surprise gift.  It's an AstraIIIb.

Frank and I had a great chat and I stole way too much of his time (thanks Frank) picking his brain.  I tend to be on the trailing edge of  technology when it comes to hobbies.  My car has points and condensers in the ignition,  morse  is faster than text and I learned celestial using HO229.  Big sigh of relief.... HO229 and log tables aren't necessarily the way to go today.   

LAN went as scheduled, it was a beautiful day on the coast and I have a lot of learnin' ahead.
