Yes, I totally agree from own experience: 2nd order regression works better onto meridian transits than onto standard LOP's when body is far from the Observer's meridian.
For culmination heights below 50°/55°, 2 nd order regression is a good tool for up to 10 / 12 minutes around culmination time.
Nonetheless, when culmination height is important, e.g above 70°/75° higher order neglected terms can become extremely important outside a few minutes (less than 5 minutes) around culmination time .
