Here's Steve reviewing a 1950's -> 1960's RAF Survival Ration.
It may be the very one you trained with!

Very military, the 'Hard Candy' survival rations.
In 1963 when I was first trained by the RN how to use those new fangled inflatable life raft things, the on board survival rations were canned fresh water and 'Hard Candy'. UK folks may well remember'Spangles'..... as sold to us in the street corner shop as kids. That's the only food that the mighty Admiralty put on board the life rafts. I guess we would have had to try cannibalism if we ever fancied any protein food.
