    The advantage is its 7x magnification. This allows you to detect the touch between the edge of the Sun and horizon more accurately. Of course this gives you an advantage only when the weather is calm or your ship is big.

    In a small boat and rough weather it is recommended to use no telescope at all. To align your sextant you can use a "zero-magnification tube", which is just a hollow tube.
