Thanks very much that's just what I needed. Just got a moon and mars sight by holding a head torch in place of the bulb holder. It's a very nice instrument. I saw the heater and presumed it was 28v but couldn't decide if the 3v bulbs were powered off that. As you say best to make up a battery box with a switch. Pity it's so heavy but seems much better optics than the MK IX. Thanks again.
