By the way, what would those pilots do if the Sun was not visible from the cabin on their current course?
Would they note the current magnetic course, make a necessary turn left or right to get the Sun shining on the compass, do the check of this (altered) course against the one shown by the compass - and apply the resulting correction to the initial magnetic course?
