Mel Fisher Atocha Museum in Key West
    From: Robin Stuart
    Date: 2015 Jun 28, 10:59 -0700

A few weekends ago I visited the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum in Key West, Florida. This houses finds finds from the Spanish treasure ship, Nuestra Señora de Atocha, that sank in 1622. The haul is estimated to be worth $500 million. It took Fisher 40 years of searching to find it plus 8 years of legal battles on ownership. During the course of the search he lost a son.

Along with gold and silver bars, coins and jewelery the museum also contains some navigational instruments all of which are easily recognizable today,

    Robin Stuart
