You indicated that it was nonsense that seamen were prohibited from performing celestial navigation because of fear of mutiny.
Including the phrase "fear of mutiny" may make the statement untrue. I am not so sure that the converse is true: that any seaman on any ship at any time was permitted to perform CN.
Would you kindly clarify what you mean? It is abundantly clear that you've examined many logbooks. How many of them were kept (proportionally) by seamen and not officers?
