    Re: Moving Navigator LAN: Culmination to Meridian Passage fully solved
    From: Antoine Couëtte

    In spite of its apparent "50 page attachments complexity" it may have been overlooked that the added value to LAN's brought by this recent contribution is TWOFOLD :

    (1) - As its numerous examples conclusively show :

    (1.1) - The incorrecly scaled 1st order classical Formula should be replaced by its properly scaled 1st order version:

     (UT Meridian Passage - UT Culmination) s = (15/μLHA)² * 48/π * (tgφ - tgD) (μφ - μD) ’/h . And :

    (1.2) - The traditional (h₀ Meridian Passage - h₀ Culmination) = 0.0'  1st order Formula should be replaced by the following 2nd order Formula :

    (h₀ Mer. Pass. - h₀ Culm.) = - 1/2 * ABS {(UT Mer. Pass. - UT Culm.)in hours * (μφ-μD) ’/h }

    At almost no computation expense, the "useful validity coverage" of the Classical LAN methods then becomes significantly increased.

    It is therefore recommended that (1.1) and (1.2) be included in LAN Navigation courses.

    (2) - An exact mathematical solution to (1.1) and (1.2) is given under an iterative form in this same enclosure.

    Kermit
