Dear Art, > Hello Alexandre - my SNO-T has 3 horizon shades only. I did combine the two most transmissive of them and it was still too bright. > I do have 4 index shades but had not quite figured out how to work things with the sextant totally upside down. :) Yes, when shooting star-to-Moon lunars I always try to use the index glass for the Moon. There are few techniques: a) You hold it upside down in your left hand. This is indeed somewhat inconvenient because the drum is on the top. b) You lay on the ground/deck. I've seen such pictures depicting 18 century seaman shooting Lunars. c) Choose another star. The most practical way:-) Alex.
