When you brillaint guys have sorted out what to do , please tell the rest of us poor navigators, whose only wish is to miss the rock on the Scillies or similar, how are we to miss the rock in fog to the nearest few metres? (it ain't going to be cellnav!)
I haven't found any system that does that yet. MARK ONE EYE BALL DOES, JUST! ( I have missed rocks by inches using the eyes in fog, all other systems, including latest GPS letting me down.) (worse at night !) Latest radar very good for big rocks, but miss small semi-submerged ones.)
In close to land. Nothing beats mark one eye ball.
Don't sail in fog if you can help it. (fog forecasts here not always accurate to local region, don't know about USA?)
Safe harbour!
Francis
