Alan,

i suspect you are thinking of Susan P. Howell. She was involved in navigation education in CT, but I don't think she had anything to do with the Fastnet race.

As memory serves, one of the participants in the Fastnet sailing race in the 1970's was an American woman, connected with navigation eduction in CT. Unfortunaely memory doesn't serve as well as it once did, and I can't recall her name. Can anyone help with some memory refreshment? Thanks.
