Thanks. It is obvious now. The app works on my phone and I am sure it will work on the tablet. I note that the submenus change depending in what screen you are on.
I set the time to 0300 UT and have confirmed that venus will be near the meridian. Looking out the window there is no cloud to the north. Unfortunately my experience is that cumulus and cirrus cloud tends to form in the afternoon. Cumulus isn't always a problem because it moves, disappears and reforms elsewhere. Cirrus on the other hand makes any attempt at sighting venus impossible for the rest of the afternoon.
