Peer reviewing is an interesting subject. I have never been involved in writing  a scientific paper or peer reviewing someone else's work. Yet a few years ago I received a message asking me to peer review something. I was probably  impolite because I ignored the message. I did not believe that I had the knowledge or expertise to review the work of someone who, along with others, had spent years studying the subject. I think my name came up because I had visited a library and found a diary entry that revealed what map Worsley had used. That was my only involvement. I do not believe that it gave me the right to analyse the work of serious researchers.

So......what is the function of peer reviewers?
