The most suspicious part of the story (to me) is with what accuracy one can steer by the Moon, assuming that one knows its azimuth, and the course required. I'm ready to believe/buy that story - since, apparently, all they needed for their navigation was the compass, as the story goes - if it were not destroyed there would be no problem. In such a conditions the quoted method of the LHAMoon calculation looks absolutely plausible. Warm regards, Tony
