It was not uncommon, on the two-seat aircraft type I nav'd around EuroMed for some years, for there to be extended silences while the quite senior pilot listened to the cricket on BBC Longwave. Didn't like interruptions for irrelevances such as fuel and oxygen checks....
One learned to 'don't speak unless spoken to'.
Came the click on t'intercom, 7 miles up and halfway between Cyprus and Gibraltar - "Nav, are you there...?"
Pissed-off reply - "Would you care to define 'there'...?"
