When I went to school, I was taught the "Bar 1" system for using logs. I then joined the Merchant navy and went to South Shields Marine and Technical College as an Apprentice where they taught the "9" system. This seemed so sensible to me that I stpped even thinking about "Bar 1".
Until that was that we were given homework in maths which, I used the "9" system. Just to be marked down because.
"Bar 1" is for use in maths and the "9" system is for use in navigation calculations!!!!!!!
