your formula
sin(h) = sin(latitude)·sin(declination) + cos(latitude)·cos(declination)·cos(t)
can be rewritten
hav(90°-h) = hav(latitude - declination) + cos(latitude)·cos(declination)·hav(t)
if you want to avoid multiplication of negative numbers. In this form all factors and terms are non-negative.
