Maybe you should have used the 1983 edition of Norie! Both conventions are used - at the top of each page is printed
1 or (9.). Take you choice - but do not mix conventions in a calculation. The 1970 edition simply had "9." at the top. It is 41 years since Capt A G Blance made that change. Did it matter? In 1983 did anyone still use paper log and haversine tables?
