Those grads on the calculator puzzled me as a child. I heard a rumour architects used them somewhere. Maybe mythical Swedish architects in polo neck shirts driving Saabs and wearing fashionable blue framed glasses.
But stranger is the military field compass divided in to 6400 mils (approximately milliradians). More for artillary aiming than navigation. Here is the model of compass allegedly used by the British Army. Maybe just to confound the enemy.
