Is the reflective surface on the back side of a piece of glass, or is the reflective surface on the front of the glass?
If the former, do you get ghost reflections from the front surface of the glass as well as the silvered reflective surface?

The silvering is on the back of a quite thick plate glass mirror by modern standards. I spotted a couple of ghosts. I'm not even sure if they were in the sextant ot the AH. I didn't have time to investigate further. The main images were so bright and the shades so stiff to play around with, I didn't like to linger. Next time I see the Sun, I'll investigate further with a shade on the telescope and the mirror shades hinges oiled, so I can slip them in and out more easily. I'm still getting the hang of marine sextants.
