    New Year's resolutions

Now is traditionally the time for New Year’s resolutions.

I have three for 2019 relating to celestial navigation:

    1.  Finish reading the American Practical Navigator (Bowditch), 1966 edition, which is, I understand, the last edition to give pride of place to celestial navigation.  It also contains much, much more.

    2.   Achieve a better understanding of spherical trigonometry.

    3.  Take stock of the sextants and octants I have acquired over the years; remove them from the closet; tune them up (just a light cleaning; not a full restoration); and, after ensuring that the filters are adequate, take enough sights with each of them to make some comparisons.  I even have an old sextant that was turned into a lamp.  This sad relic appears to be complete.  I’d like to make it live again.

What are your navigational resolutions for 2019?
