    Very interesting article. Thank you for sharing. I'm new to NavList, Norwegian (pardon my English) and I'm quite sure they used 'sunstones' for navigating during the viking period. I'm planning to get hold of a suitable piece of calcite and check out this old method on the fiord myself. :)

    I find it likely one reason archeologists haven't found any such stones in any viking graves yet, not even in the great ships excavated during 19th century, could be due to grave robbery. A nice looking crystal or stone unfortunately may have found its way to the private market, in same ways as other items did.
