Good to have you here!
I am a recent purchaser of a WINDSN Telemeter, and, well… my altitudes are generally within about 2 degrees of the correct reading, and only on terra firma. It might be useful for determining what general part of the continent you’re on, but the the amount of swing in the weight is rather substantial. I’d be interested to see if others can make it perform any better.
On the bright side, bringing it along on a recent car-camping trip made my family significantly less unhappy than trying to wedge my sextant into a fully-packed car.
Come to think of it, it might do substantially better (a) with stars, where you can sight directly along the card, and (b) at night, because no horizon is necessary. Hmmm....
