Having spent a little bit of time with the Hanno Ix graphical method of determining azimuth given lat, decl and lha, I then found his description of how to use that graph (with minor amendments) to determine Hc given the same inputs. That struck me as possibly useful in planning observations, although I found it slightly cumbersome to work out. Then I thought that ABC tables must be able to determine the same thing, maybe even more quickly.
And of course they do, but I needed the work of old navigators from centuries ago to show me how. The reference is attached.
